This has to be one of my favourite cocktails of all time. The flavour and extra zing that the coffee brings serve as an outstanding conversation starter (with giggles). Here are some tips on how I make mine to perfection every time.

The trick is to start with really, really good ingredients. Fresh high quality vodka, Kahlua, coffee liqueur and of course espresso made from Hill Roasters superb coffee beans.

Be careful not to over shake when mixing the ingredients as this will make too much froth which will in turn reduce the alcohol content.

Always, always chill the classes before adding the mix. This will help keep the coolness of that first delicious sip and ensure that the foam is optimal.

Then just decorate it to suite your own artistic sensibilities. I use a very light sprinkle of finely ground beans a top the foam and accidentally on purpose drop some whole beans at the foot of the glass.

Give this recipe a go:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce Kahlua
  • 1 ounce espresso
  • Coffee beans, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Grind 18 grams of coffee beans from Hill Roasters using a burr grinder.
  2. Tamp the ground coffee into a portafilter and brew an espresso shot.
  3. Chill your martini glasses.
  4. In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, Kahlua, and espresso.
  5. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  6. Strain the cocktail into the chilled martini glasses.
  7. Garnish with coffee beans.
  8. Serve and enjoy (with giggles)!
